sleep
A Love hate relationship
Sleep, child,
A mother tenderly whispers
To the one millionth question
of outer space
To give our brains space
And commit to memory the love of home
Sleep child
A father warns
As the last of the child’s energy burns
The protection of his arms
When collapsing in exhaustion
Sleep child
A doctor’s instruction
To prevent self-destruction
For the cortisol receptors are overloaded
Sleep
A friend’s go-to wisdom
To close the chasm
of doubt unfolding
To reset the system
Sleep,
A love-hate relationship
Body screams awake
The monsters are out there
Mind says retreat
Give space to think
To live to fight another day
Sleep
A love-hate relationship
What was once at odds
May just be a balancing of equations \
